Frequently Asked Questions
This depends on the amount of detail in a body paint. Usually it takes an hour to just cover a model from top to toe in one colour of paint. The average body paint takes about 4 to 5 hours. When a body paint design requires much detail we can also work on it with 2 artists to reduce the working time.
The paint will stay on as long as you do not rub it or make it wet. If you look after your body paint it will last a whole day, evening or night. We can apply fixing spray, this will help make the paint last.
A hot shower with water and soap take off most of the paint. Sometimes it is necessary to use a baby wipe or make -up wipe to take of the last bit of some colours. Some people hang on to some colours depending on the acidity of their skin. If pros-aid glue is used you might need some oil to take off the residues. Soaking in a hot bath with oil will take off lots of prosthetic applications.
A heavy downpour will definitely ruin your art work. Advice for that is to stay inside. A slight trickle of rain might not do all that much harm as long as you don't rub it off. Some little splashes will dry up again as soon you are inside.
Our models do not come usually from agencies. Anyone having a good looking body, is confident in showing it off and has some time available can apply to be a BodyFX model. You will have an advantage if you have dance/acting or other public performance experience/ skills.
Yes, you possibly can. Just fill in the model application form (click here) or reply on one of our model requests on face book. Not all modelling jobs are paid jobs. Some are just for fun, practice or promotion of our prosthetic range. You will always get some nice photos to put on your CV or Facebook page.
Profusely sweating is a problem for any body art. it is recommended to stay in the shade on hot days and not to go wild in running or dancing while you are painted.
That depends on the occasion. We always try to accommodate our client's wishes. If left to us, Yolanda makes most of the intricate designs.
We regularly teach workshops so best thing is to sign up so we can keep you updated with our next workshop Then you will find out whether you have some talents to develop in this direction. Just click here for information and dates about our workshops.
We would need a couple of square meters in a warm room, preferable with easy water access and a table. We are very tidy painters but we can bring drop cloths when required.
In the workshop you will get taught all the basics in a very step by step way. No you do not have to be highly creative however it does help if you have some art experience.
All our artists are trained to paint 12 kids an hour, this is full faces. We can work faster with smaller designs however we pride ourselves in making the best artwork so we do enjoy taking our time when possible.
Face-art is our main form of entertainment and is a lovely low key add on to any party. Additionally we can provide glitter tattoos, airbrush tattoos, hair -ups and some artists do balloon twisting as well. We do have some connections with other entertainment providers.
We will happily accept either cash or cheque on the day or bank deposit (must be cleared 2 days before the event, in case of any problems. When paying on the day we suggest to have an envelope ready and pay before we start. It becomes a lot more chaotic to organise that when the party is in full swing.
We do not have a cut off time for bookings though the earlier you book, the more likely we will have a spot available at your ideal time. November through to March tends to be our busiest time, so if possible confirm your plans sooner rather than later. We have a number of fantastic artists though, so will do our best to make something work. As we run all scheduling through an online, real-time calendar, we're able to check easily who's available and book you as far out as you'd like.
If they're available, definitely! Just mention their name with the booking and we'll do our best to shift things around to accommodate your request. If they're not available we will send another artist instead. Mind all our artists get a similar training.
A small table inside or outside in a shaded, sheltered area. Corner of a counter or breakfast bar will work fine as well. Further we will need some water and proper light to work in. We bring our kit, mirror and bar stool.
We normally wear our colourful team wear but we can come in costume, additional fees apply.
We paint kids from the age of 1.5 to 110, as long as the child is happy to have it done we are happy to apply. For very small children we would only do very small designs.
All the paints we use and sell are high quality cosmetics imported
from the US, Europe and Australia. They are water based and FDA
compliant, approved for cosmetic use - in fact they're not actually
paints but make-up. We use a combination of TAG, Paradise (which contain
aloe, chamomile, avocado and cocoa butter - they smell amazing!) ,
Fantasy and Snazaroo.

"Non-Toxic" does not mean "safe for skin". Acrylic paints (AKA craft paints or tempura paints) are not meant to be used on the skin - nor are watercolour markers or pencils. Many people are allergic to the non-FDA approved chemicals and colourants used in craft paints and will break out in a rash when these paints are used. Watercolour/washable markers do not easily wash off skin - the term "washable" refers to their ability to wash off fabric easily, not skin. Professional-grade cosmetic face paint benefits from a lot of testing and are designed to be easy to work with, long lasting, comfortable to wear, vibrant and most importantly, safe. They wear well for many hours and wash off easily with mild soap and water when required. Your safety and the quality of our work is unparalleled; simply put, bad paints give bad results and can give bad reactions!
We have studios in Auckland and in Wellington, but we are happy to come to you. Additional travel fees may apply.
We maintain a common sense regarding our hygiene practices, meaning
we keep all our materials clean, rinse water regularly and use one
sponge per person.
We do not paint people with obvious sores or infections. Further we have
a full liability insurance.
Ideally we require notice of cancellations a minimum of two weeks out. If we rebook you to another date with more than two weeks notice no penalty is to be paid. If you wish to transfer the date of your booking with less than two weeks notice, there may be a $20 transfer fee (if we are unable to rebook your original slot). If your booking is canceled altogether, a $40 cancellation fee is payable. Please contact us as soon as you realise there may be a problem and we'll do our best to assist you and book you another more suitable date.
Yes we can make custom made prosthetics. They are pretty expensive though because we have to make a life cast of your face or body part. The desired prosthetic will sculpted on that to give you a perfect fit. Flick Nicole an email with your request to receive a free quote.
You can peel off the prosthetic like a bandade. remove any residues with a little oil or myristrate.
Yes you can re use the prosthetic a number of times. After you take
it off you can wash and dry it, store it in a plastic bag and glue it
back on when you need it. You may have to touch up the paint again or
even repaint the prosthetic.
